Sunny Stripes

wndy

You all know by now that I’m a fan of Sasha’s Basic InstincT pattern, and this time I’ve whizzed one up in a mustardy yellow stripe. When I saw this striped cotton in Spotlight recently I just had to buy it, and I don’t regret it one bit! I just love the sunny colour and the way it makes you feel happy when you put it on, plus it goes fantastic with denim.

This is where I confess that I actually bought quite a few pieces of fabric at Spotlight! I haven’t shopped for fabric there before, but they have a huge selection and some worthy stuff, so I will keep it on my future radar. They stock a lot of sewing accessories and haberdashery too – the sort of place you could easily spend a couple of hours! This particular stripe is a nice quality, and there’s an olive colourway too that I keep thinking about…

A nice touch to this pattern is that it includes instructions on how to sew the back neck binding. I’ve never done this before – well I guess I’ve never really sewn t-shirts before! I used a scrap of grey-green cotton leftover from my last Basic InstincT and I’m very happy with the result.

In case you are worried about matching the stripes when sewing this t-shirt – don’t be! This pattern has all the work done for you, for a range of stripe widths, which is really convenient.

With a super pattern and an easy to sew fabric this was a really enjoyable project and I look forward to making more.

Do you bother with sewing basics like t-shirts? Do you bother blogging about them too? A part of me thinks they are not worth it, but there is nothing wrong with a good basic!
