It is a total ‘set-up’ photo, but I was pretty stuffed!
I used to run quite a bit and did a few 5/10k races until a back injury put an end to any ideas of a half-marathon. This time I’m taking it a bit more g-r-a-d-u-a-l, and if I just manage a few short races here and there I will be happy…..although I do have a teeny dream of running a marathon before I reach 50…..
Anyway, I just wanted to comment on how many other sewing bloggers go running! Tasia runs, Shannon runs, Melissa runs – and even better makes her own running gear! Sarai has just run a half-marathon, and I’m sure I remember Karen and Peter and kbenco mentioning running at some stage. And I know that there are tons more of you that I can’t pinpoint right now in my Olympomania!
Maybe many of us run because sewing is a sedentary hobby and we need to get out and pound the pavement to make up for it! Or maybe it is because sewing can be frustrating and a good run can sweep those irritating frustrations aside. Or maybe we just run to maintain our weight so we still fit into our lovingly crafted garments! If you’re a runner, what is it that keeps you tying your laces and heading out the door?
And next question – do you blog about it? I’ve just started following a few inspirational running blogs, and would enjoy following someone I already ‘know’, so please leave a link in the comments if you blog or have recommendations! (And this is where I shyly admit I started my own running blog the other day so I could record my progress without boring you here!)
So, do you sew and run too? Tell me about it because I’d genuinely love to know, and I’m sure other sewing runners will too!
I gotta go now because the women’s triathlon is starting soon and I’m so excited I don’t want to miss a single moment – go Andrea, Kate and Nicky! I hope you can repeat what our rowers did!

Missing you at your sewing blog. Is it over, or will you return? (I hope it's the latter!)

Just found your blog via Closet Case Files and am really enjoying it! I've been having the same deal lately, being a running sewer, where I sometimes want to post about running somehow but it feels weird to jam into my sewing blog. I occasionally consider sewing something running related and then my sanity returns. Haha, anyway, Go Team Sewing Runners!

What a great contrast in hobby/profession running and sewing are. They both produce measurable results, which is what I like best. (but I have only dabbled in sewing and can't even figure out why my machine gets hung up 🙂 )
Great to see what you're up to here!

I never did this before, I think I never even commented on a blog. Still I'm heavily using your great tutorials and following your blog for over a year now. But you were never “gone” for so long so please just say that everything is alright- if it is and I hope that it is!

Just checking in since you've been MIA, and realized I hadn't seen this post. I am also a sewist who runs. After a few months dealing with a back injury (non-running related), I'm just finding my way back. On Saturday, I'm running my first race (a 10k) since I ran a half marathon last December. I occasionally mention running on my blog; I did whine extensively about the back injury. Good luck with your running!

I wish I can run again, it was a year ago when I stopped running because of being pregnant. Anyway, I love your photo.

Congratulations on starting to run again!
I started running years ago because it was part of my job requirement,(military) but as of Jan this year I am retired after 33 yrs of service and still continue to do it on my own. I still lace up and look forward to going for my runs. When I can't run outside, I have a treadmill at home or I go to the gym and run on the indoor track. It is very addictive and the health benefits are well worth the effort. When I was younger I was very competitive (more with myself) and was more focused on distance/time. My best was 5k in 20 mins. Now I want to run distance,at least 5-7km,5 times a week, but I am not concerned about timing,it's more about quality, well being and enjoying it. I also add some weight training to balance my exercising and it is a great way to start off a day 🙂

I sew and run, too! I'm a high school teacher by trade and I have the summers off. My ideal summer day this past year, the days that I took for myself and only for myself, involved training for a half marathon in the morning (which I nailed at my goal time of 2:15:17 on September 9th!), taking a shower, then sewing the rest of the day.
I feel that they go hand-in-hand in a way. Running contributes to physical health, and sewing contributes to mental health. Also, I feel much better sewing for myself when my body is closer to the way I want it to look 🙂

I run often and sew occasionally and blog about them both. I made some pockets for my running shorts: http://gottarunnow.blogspot.com/2010/09/add-pockets-to-shorts.html.
I can't wait to check out all of the sewing/running bloggers you mentioned and the ones who commented, too!

Hi Sherry! I'm glad your sewing blog is still up, I frequently find something useful in past posts. I just looked at your running blog, great posts and beautiful pictures too! And it sounds like you've been super busy work-wise. I've just started running again after a groin injury in a 10K I ran just over a year ago. My first 5K is end of May!

True that sewing is a sedentary job. I also knit and work from home, so add more hours sitting to that. I don't run, but started practicing capoeira one year ago and it's really what I needed 🙂

Thanks for visiting my blog and I totally agree that it's fun to run in the rain once you're running but pretty hard to go out if it's already wet. I am one of your ranks – a sewer who runs or a runner who sews. Sewing fulfils those creative urges while running fills the physical ones. It's a great balance.

I sew and run like a fiend. I blog about the sewing and the running stuff I sew (most recent I think is my Fehr Trade running tights). I run marathons and half-marathons. I just made the new Jalie shorts and I'll blog about those tonight maybe. 🙂

I know this is an old post, but I just came across your blog and wanted to say that I sew and run too. Well, I primarily race triathlons because I like the cross training aspect, but I still run quite a bit. So I’m sewing more in the winter and training in the spring and summer 🙂
